Happy New Year

Now I may be almost one point five months late but even I have the right to be busy, right? So, exactly what was I busy with? Well, you can't just wake up and walk straight into quiz competitions hoping that your genius will do your dirty work for you, can you? No sir, you've got to prepare, you've to toil just like you do if you want to achieve anything in life - only in this case, it is a lot more fun since toiling involves reading up on the latest news and happenings, browsing through yearbooks, magazines and Wikipedia, testing oneself through Mastermind India volumes one to five, etc.

Of course none of the aforementioned things actually materialized, and the sole reason I've written all that is only because of the remote possibility that my quizzing partner will access the internet, check my blog and close the tab/window, satisfied after reading the first couple of sentences that I put in almost as much effort as him. And in case, just in case he persists beyond the first paragraph, I must mention that I would like to thank Anand Aiyer, without whom this success would not have been possible, in part because the quizzing team of the University of Mumbai for the past two years has been composed of the two of us plus one. So yes, after successfully defending our university, state and zonal titles, we managed to go one up on our 2nd place finish in last year's nationals by, well, winning it this year.

So now that I've got rid of him, I feel oblige to explain to you valued readers what I was really doing since I wasn't really preparing for the prestigious quiz. Exams? Yes, that makes for a very convenient and believable excuse. Indeed, the last two months of the past year were fraught with dangers - from internals to vivas and project presentations to the main exams, it was literally a roller-coaster ride that started on the day after Guru Nanak Jayanti, and ended on New Year's Eve. Of course, being allowed to give one of the internals later on account of being on duty (quizzing at the state level in Kolhapur) did act as a breather, but all the oxygen we gained back then was duly lost when we had to literally run after one of our main exams in order to make it on time for the West Zone elims.

So yes, there were exams. And I did study - one day prior to each of them. On the other days, I did nothing of note. Except on Fridays, when I watched certain movies, first day first show. And on certain Thursdays, when I watched the paid previews of certain other movies, all of which was supposed to form the basis of not only the regular movie reviews that you guys (might?) have been reading on No Quarters. but also a wrap of 2009 in Indian films. And while this wrap hasn't materialized as yet, it will - soon. Quickly moving on to other news, and I was appointed the student head of our college's debut magazine - and what do you know? Seven months down the line and I have still not been relieved of my duties!

Since I need to watch my fingers w.r.t. the college mag, the probability of other Mag Commies as opposed to Mr. Aiyer reading my blog being quite high, I shall end with my signature ambiguity - a lot has happened since the New Year's Eve previously mentioned in this post. Only one question remains - will those events be revealed on this blog? And if yes, when? when? when?

5 vishesh tippaniya:
