What a fun month this was. Seriously. Here's looking (back) at you, kid.
In the beginning...
Started off with May Day, which in these parts is known as Maharashtra Day (the state was formed on this day in 1960). It was also a day when the papers were filled with reports about the previous day's elections in a city rocked by terrorist attacks on a couple of five stars which somehow awakened the sleeping middle-class. Over five months of hype* culminated in a record turnout - lowest in 20 years! I spent the first half of the day laughing so hard, I got fever later.
*created by numerous candlelight vigils, endless protest marches, public discussions, signature campaigns, voter awareness drives and vociferous demands proclaiming "Enough is enough!" through the means of mass media and a gazillion websites that cropped up, each representing a hitherto unknown organization fighting for some variant of the great cause of "change".
Meanwhile, in college and in life...
I just had a couple of days between my hastily finished (and surprisingly on time) submissions and the start of my vivas. Vivas - now there's something I should be writing about. And guess what? I will. A series of short posts coming up, starting tomorrow. In the middle of the vivas, I managed to see quite a few films - I do remember the names but I'll save them for a post in which I'll link the names to the reviews on that other blog of mine. As it turned out, the fever on the first evening of the month wasn't due to excessive laughter - dear salmonella had decided to extend its vacation in my gut, so in the middle of my vivas, medication restarted.
Oh and got internet the day before the election results - was constantly checking those on multiple websites, since the reliable ones (like the Election Commission one) were inaccessible, while most of the others especially media websites were very buggy and cluttered esp. India Today and NDTV. CNN-IBN, despite its fair share of problems, shone through mainly because of the separate section where you could check out constituency-wise results and leads, including the exact number of votes polled.
So much for May then...
Another IPL went by (personally, not having it at all would have been better than having it in South Africa, but who can possibly talk sense to money-hungry people like Lalit Modi?), a new government was sworn in. And Ibanov came back to his blog.
